Calcium oxide (calcium oxide, calcium oxide, quicklime or "kipelka", calcium oxide) — the white crystal substance crystallizing in cubical face-centered crystal lattice. Calcium oxide belongs to the main oxides. It is dissolved in water with energy allocation, forming calcium hydroxide.
Receiving
In the industry calcium oxide (calcium oxide, calcium oxide) is received
• thermal limestone decomposition (calcium carbonate):
CaCO3 = CaO + CO2
• also calcium oxide can be received at interaction of simple substances:
2Ca + O2 = 2CaO
• and at thermal decomposition of calcium hydroxide and calcic salts of some oxygen-containing acids:
2Ca(NO3) 2 = 2CaO + 2N2O + 4O2
Application
Calcium oxide (calcium oxide, quicklime) finds broad application
• in construction, as limy cement,
• as available and inexpensive refractory material,
• in chemical industry,
• agriculture,
• in the food industry, it is registered as food additive of E529, etc.
