|Ethyl acetate is organic compound which belongs to the class of ethers. In chemistry it has also the name acetum - ethyl ether. Ethyl acetate technical represents easily volatile colorless liquid and has pleasant smell of fruit. This substance is used as solvent in production of paints, collodion cottons, pigments of pitches, mastics, by nitrocellulose, ethyl celluloses, varnishes of different types (including nitroglyptal, polyester, polyvinyl acetate). Also it is applied in production of luminiferous lamps, glues, cellophane, film, plastic, oilcloths, dermantina, vinyl artificial leather, bumvinil, linoleum, industrial rubber goods and other products. Ethyl acetate can mix up with water, and also organic solvents in any proportions.
Ethyl acetate technical has low cost in combination with small toxicity. Also its smell is much more pleasant, than at other solvents. It is already possible to judge small toxicity because by special preparation it is food additive (E 1504) which is applied in fruit essences.
As solvent the most qualitative ethyl acetate is brand A ethyl acetate in / grade in which the mass fraction of substance makes not less than 99% . There are several ways of industrial receiving ethyl acetate. It can be distillation of ethyl alcohol in mix with sulphuric and acetic acid, processing ketene of ethyl alcohol, receiving from acetic aldehyde in the presence of the aluminum alkoxide catalyst at temperature of 0 - 5 °C (Tishchenko's reaction).
