Two-electrode arc mercury lamp
1 - a mercury flask of a high pressure, an external flask with the phosphor 3 applied on it from within, 4 - a socle.
The two-electrode lamp is structurally executed in the form of a thick-walled refractory glass cylinder with two refractory self-heated electrodes. The flask is filled with mercury vapors under pressure of 5-10 Atm (kgf/cm2). This flask is located in one more, bigger diameter, covered from within with a phosphor. The phosphor serves for transformation of a range of the mercury category to more habitual and safe orange-red range at simultaneous absorption of dangerous long-wave radiation. Visible radiation of a mercury flask is practically not absorbed by a phosphor.

The 1-main electrodes, 2 - additional electrodes, 3 - resistance.
The four-electrode lamp unlike two-electrode can join to a network through a throttle without use of the special puskoreguliruyushchy device. Structurally differ in existence of two more electrodes connected to the main (opposite) via coal resistors of big resistance. During inclusion between additional and main electrodes there is a smoldering category facilitating start-up of a lamp. After ignition of a lamp the smoldering category stops.
