Fir oil — essential oil which is extracted steam distillation from needles and young branches of trees of a siberian fir (Abies sibirica Ledeb. ), great silver fir (Abies alba) and balsam fir (Abies balsamea L. ), growing in a number of the countries of Europe, Asia and North America.
Fir oil — the colourless or poorly painted liquid with a coniferous balsam smell. It is soluble in ethanol (1: 5÷9 — in 90% ), benzyl benzoate, diethyl phthalate, vegetable and mineral oils; slightly solublly in glycerin and propylene glycol; insolubly in water. In the silnokisly and alkaline environment it is unstable.
Are a part of oil — myrcene, cis - and транс - β - оцимены, limonene, dipentene, α - and γ - terpinena, a terpinolene, α - and β - pinenes, camphene, santen, α - thujene, α - fenchene, 3 carene, γ - бисаболен, sabinene, n - cymene, baras camphor, cineol and other components. Also contain in oil of the European fir dekanal and dodekanal.
Receive from needles and young branches of a fir by a driving off about the ferry, an oil exit up to 1,2% . The main producers — Yugoslavia, Russia, Bulgaria and Germany.
Apply as a component of fragrances to cosmetic products, soap and goods of household chemicals.
