Description
Paronite leaf PON
Paronite is a sheet material that is a vulcanization product of a mixture of several components: asbestos fibers (their share reaches 60-70%), mineral fillers (15-18%), rubber, solvent (12-15%) and sulfur (1.2-8%). It is made by rolling the described mixture under high pressure.
A characteristic feature of sheet paronite is its ease of use: this material is easily chopped and cut, allowing the cutting of gaskets of any configuration. Under pressure exceeding 32 MPa, the yield strength of paronite is reached, as a result of which the material fills all existing leaks, thus ensuring the highest tightness of the connection. It is important to choose the right thickness of the paronite gasket: it should be minimal, but sufficient for the material to fill the gaps. An excessively thick paronite gasket is likely to be squeezed out.
Nowadays, sheet paronite has become widespread in a variety of industries, including electric power, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, chemical and petrochemical industries, and many others. Being an excellent and, we note, very popular gasket material, paronite is used to seal flat connectors of various components and assemblies, allowing operation in aggressive environments (in particular, in alcohols, superheated water, aqueous solutions of salts, light and heavy oil products). Products that include paronite in their design can be used in macroclimatic areas with cold, temperate and tropical conditions, while the ambient temperature can drop to -60°C.
The breadth of the scope of application of sheet paronite is one of the reasons for dividing this material into varieties (grades), each of which has its own technical characteristics and is best suited for certain purposes. The following grades of this material exist:
- paronite PON “B” (general purpose): sheet material designed to create seals that are used in aggressive environments (such as light and heavy oil products, superheated and saturated steam, gaseous and liquid ammonia, liquid nitrogen and oxygen, alcohols, aqueous saline solutions). The temperature of the working environment surrounding products made from PON “B” paronite can vary from -50 to +450°C. At a pressure of 35 MPa, the material has a compressibility of 5-15%; after removing this pressure, the recoverability of PON “B” paronitis is 35%.
