In Europe pipes for gas pipelines let out on ISO 4437. Our national standard - state standard specification P 50838 is the modified version of this document considering characteristic conditions of laying and operation of gas pipelines in Russia. One of the most essential changes is the ban on use secondary (received when processing pipes) polyethylene - in original ISO 4437 there is no this restriction.
It is one of the few cases when our domestic requirements to production are more strict than foreign.
Description of polyethylene pipes
Polyethylene pipes for gas pipelines are issued from the special pipe brands of polyethylene classified as PE 80 and PE 100. The class of polyethylene is established by way long (proceeding over a year) tests internal pressure and allows to calculate the maximum working pressure with which service life of a gas pipe will make not less than 50 years at a temperature of 20 °C. The pipes made of PE 100 at the same thickness of a wall are capable to work with a bigger internal pressure, than pipes from PE 80. It is important to notice that by production of gas pipes only primary polyethylene is used.
In the product range of the POLYPLASTICITY Group there are pipes from polyethylene for gas pipelines in accordance with GOST P 50838 with a diameter from 20 to 630 mm, and also polyethylene pipes for underground networks of gas distribution and gas consumption with a diameter up to 1200 mm which are let out on TU 2248-010-73011750-2010. Except a class of polyethylene and diameter polyethylene pipes are characterized by diameter relation to wall thickness - SDR. The SDR value is less, the pipe wall, and the bigger pressure is thicker such pipe can sustain. The POLYPLASTICITY group lets out pipes for gas pipelines with SDR from 9 to 26.
Color of a polyethylene pipe for transportation of gas can be black, yellow or orange. Black gas pipes have longitudinal nonerasable yellow strips which allow to distinguish the laid gas pipeline from pipelines of other appointment. The marking repeating through meter, the containing information is applied on each pipe on: to material, pipe standard size, its appointment, information on the producer, party and date of production. Properties of pipes PND
Pipes PND possess a number of the advantages important and to the operating organization, and for the builder that does them by the optimal solution at construction of gas-distributing systems of any level - beginning from gasification of a country house, and finishing with construction of networks of gas distribution in scales of the megalopolis or small settlement.
Polyethylene - a fine insulator thanks to what pipes PND are unreceptive to the wandering currents.
Pipes from polyethylene are chemically resistant to the transported natural gas, are not subject to corrosion under the influence of air moisture thanks to what they do not demand the device of electrochemical protection. Besides, due to the lack of corrosion processes during operation there is no overgrowing of a pipe and decrease in its capacity.
Thanks to flexibility polyethylene pipes are not damaged at motions of soil, even considerable. It allows not to be afraid for their safety when laying gas pipelines in unstable soil and seismoactive areas. Admissible radius of a bend for pipe PND is equal to 25 of its diameters that is nearly 50 times less, than at steel pipes that allows to use the lengthy pipes with a diameter up to 180 mm delivered on object in bays or on coils (drums) that considerably simplifies process of installation and minimizes the number of welded connections. When using polyethylene pipes it is possible to apply effectively various ways of bestransheyny reconstruction of old worn-out pipelines in the constrained conditions of the cities, and also new bestransheyny laying by method of directional drilling.
Service life of a polyethylene pipe makes not less than 50 years, and in favorable conditions when pressure of gas is less settlement, and its temperature below 20 °C can exceed 100 years.
Pipes PND have considerably the smaller weight, than steel pipes that simplifies their transportation and laying.
Unfortunately, pipes PND restrictedly are resistant to ultraviolet rays therefore such pipes cannot be used for elevated laying. Besides, polyethylene - a combustible material that does not allow to use pipes from it for laying of gas pipelines in rooms.
Installation of polyethylene gas pipelines
Polyethylene pipes can be connected to the help of welding end-to-end or by means of a svarkidetalyama with electromortgage heaters, at the same time durability of the connection executed with observance of technology of welding appears higher than durability of the pipe. The cost of pipes from polyethylene
In spite of the fact that polyethylene gas pipes dorozhetrub for water supply systems, first of all, because of more strict requirements to raw materials and wider range of necessary tests, the price of gas pipe PND are lower, than on steel pipes.
Due to economy at stations of cathodic protection (including costs of operation and the consumed electric power) or lack of need of periodic coloring of a surface of the gas pipelines necessary at their elevated laying, and also smaller costs of operation of the polyethylene gas pipelines connected with their high reliability and durability, the cumulative cost of life cycle (at longer service life) is much lower than polyethylene gas pipelines (design, construction and operation), than steel.
