Potassium iodide is easy reducer and is applied as reactant in iodometry to oxidation - reduction titration (analytical chemistry). It is used as electrolyte component in electrochemical converters, and also as microfertilizer.
In the food industry potassium iodide with potassium iodate is applied to receiving iodized salt. The paper moistened with solution of potassium iodide and starch is used as the indicator for identification of number of oxidizers (ozone, chlorine).
Potassium iodide is used at production of light - sensitive photographic materials as the antiveiling substance, and also in medicine, veterinary science and pharmacology for preparation of anti - thyroid, mucolytic, expectorant, antifungal, resorptional and radio protective preparations.
