Polypropylene: scopes of application.
Polypropylene, like other synthetic polymers, finds broad application in many industries. Especially many polypropylene products are used in the food industry and in medicine. Polypropylene is rather plastic and easily gives in to processing. Products from polypropylene can give practically any desirable form. Due to change of pressure during polypropylene synthesis reaction process, and also using various catalysts, it is possible to receive as a result a product with various properties. Copolymerization of polypropylene with other polymers is widely used. The made foam polypropylene, for example, is made in such a way.
Polypropylene usually goes on sale in the form of granules of various color. Not to be mistaken with the choice of polypropylene and to buy polymer with the necessary properties, it is important to pay attention to its marking. In this article we will consider features of the marking of polypropylene used in our country and abroad and also state standard specifications and TU used for its production and ways of processing of this synthetic polymer.
Production of polypropylene.
Production of polypropylene represents rather difficult process of polymerization with use of metalcomplex catalysts. Polyethylene of low pressure is made on similar technology. In production there is an opportunity to vary consumer properties of polymer and if necessary to combine them. It is reached due to change of the catalyst.
In the course of copolymerization of ethylene and propylene, using low and average pressure, receive polypropylene in two types: in the form of copolymer and in the form of a gomopolimer. Polypropylene in granules standard, used on this production, colors or at the request of the customer is issued. The bulk density of granules fluctuates from 0,4 g/cm to 0,5 g / see.
Polypropylene marking.
There is a lot of types of polypropylene applied in the industry. Each look has the marking. Not to get confused in the choice will be not superfluous to understand all variety of the offered production.
As a rule, in Russia polypropylene has designation software, however there are also others. To you designation RR homopolymer, PP, PP HO, PP-X can meet. Separate types of polypropylene have the names too. Block copolymer of ethylene and propylene can be designated as PPR, PPH, PPM or PPU, depending on the content of polyethylene. Block copolymer of polypropylene is marked by PP/Co or PPCP, and the sewed polymer - PP-XMOD.
The polypropylene modified by rubber is designated by EMPP. The letters EPP mark the made foam polypropylene.
High-isotactic polypropylene the gomopolimer has the designation HIPP. Material from mix of ethylene, a diene, propylene and polypropylene is marked by either PP-EPDM, or PP/EP.
