• SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHES OF MENTAL ARITHMETICS:

  Two scientists ― Michael Frank and David Barner from Stenfordsky and Californian universities have gone to India, to study how mental abilities develop thanks to mental arithmetics.

  In the first experiment studied children who in one year have learned to count on physical abakus. They have begun to train to make arithmetic calculations at the mental level only recently. Scientists have asked children to make arithmetic calculations on addition. It was difficult to much of them to execute calculations with three-digit, four-digit digits.

  In the second experiment scientists have conducted research with participation of 15 children who in perfection have mastered equipment of the mental account. These children had to make difficult arithmetic calculations, listening to the fairy tale about Ali Bab and forty robbers. And in too time they had to repeat each word from the fairy tale while listened to it (that is task for hearing) or to drum fingers on table (task for motility).

  Tasks for hearing and motility complicated at these children process of calculation in mind a little, however it was easier for these children to perform task for hearing, than task for physical activity.

  For students of the Californian university who never trained on mental arithmetics, task for performance of difficult arithmetic operations listening to the fairy tale it was almost impossible!
