Scoring (German of biegen — to bend around) — operation of drawing a rectilinear groove on a sheet of paper. It is necessary for the subsequent addition in the area of paper with a density more than 175 g/m ² or a cardboard.
Scoring is carried out if there is a probability to damage the applied image by a usual bend; it protects the place of a bend from cracking and a paint layer, giving to printed materials accurater look.
