Distribution. Europe and Asia. Considerable thickets are available in Transbaikalia, Sayan Mountains, in Altai, in Tuva, Central Asia, in the Caucasus, in Siberia. It is widely cultivated. In Altai the areas of culture more than 5000 Hectares.

Habitat. On river valleys, coast of the rivers, in mountains. Often forms heavy beds or curtains.
