Isooctane (2,2,4 - trimetilpentan, iso - octane) — saturated hydrocarbon of aliphatic series.
Isooctane — transparent colorless liquid with gasoline smell; it is water - insoluble, we will dissolve in usual organic solvents; forms constant boiling mixtures, for example with benzene, methyl and ethyl alcohols. Antiknock properties of isooctane are taken for 100 units of scale of so - called octane values. Chemical formula: With (CH3)3 — CH2—CH(CH3)2
