Physical and chemical properties. C5H10O2. M of m 102,13. Colorless liquid. Tpl - 95 °, Tkip 101,8 °, Tvsp 14 °, Tvospl 435º; d420 0,8867; _{nD20 1,3844}. It is dissolved in oganichesky solvents, it is bad in water (1,89% ). Solubility coefficient of vapors in water 164,4.

Receiving. Etherification of acetic acid propane - 1 - olom.

Application. Solvent of cellulose ethers, natural and synthetic resins; component of perfumery compositions; aromatic substance for foodstuff.

Toxic action. Sharp poisoning. Animals. At steam inhalation of P. V of concentration of 33,4 ^g/m3 4 rats from 6 have died. Concentration of 25 ^g/m3 causes deep anesthesia in mice.

Person. Lethal dose of P. at intake of 50 g. Inhalation of 1 ^g/m3 of P. within 5 min. causes easy irritation of upper airways, pharynx and eyes (Smith).

Chronic poisoning. Animals. Influence of vapors P. in concentration of 160 ^g/m3 within 30 days or 40 ^g/m3 within 80 days leads to oppression of fagotsitarny activity of leukocytes, anemia with marrow hypoplasia, to violation of carbohydrate exchange; the part of rabbits has died. At the fallen animals - polnokrovy and dystrophic changes of internals, in lungs - atelectases, emphysema, has sometimes swelled; violation of spermatogenesis (Ambrosio, D'Arrigo).

Hygienic standards. Pdkr. z - 200 ^mg/m3, couples, the 4th class of danger; Pdkm. R - 0,1 ^mg/m3, the 4th class of danger.
