Propyl alcohol (propane - 1 - ol, 1 propyl alcohol) C3H7OH — monoatomic alcohol. There is propyl alcohol isomer 1 — isopropyl alcohol (propane - 2 - ol, 2 propyl alcohol).
The colorless liquid with spirit smell, mixes up with water and organic solvents.
Propyl alcohol possesses all chemical properties of monoatomic alcohol.
1 propyl alcohol is applied as solvent to vosk, polyamide ink, natural and synthetic resins, polyacrylonitrile; in production of low - pressure polyethylene; for receiving karbometoksitsellyuloza; as degreaser of metals; sorastvoritel of polyvinyl chloride adhesives; the gelatinating and plasticizing agent of tsellyuloznoatsetatny films; alkylating agent.
It is used also for synthesis of propionic acid, propylaldehyde, propyl acetate, propylamine, surfactant, pesticides, some pharmaceuticals.
