2 - Metil - 2 - propanol (tertiary butyl alcohol, tert - butanol, trimetilkarbinol, 1,1 dimethylethanol) — the representative of tertiary monoatomic alcohol.

Colourless fusible crystals. Mixes up with water, gives with it constant boiling mixture (t. kip. 79,9 °C, 11,8% of water). Let's well dissolve in organic solvents.

Typical representative of alcohols. Quietly reacts with alkali metals. With carboxylic acids gives esters.

In production of isobutylene of high purity. Alkylating agent, solvent, antiseptic agent. Fragrant substance in perfumery (camphoric smell). It is used for alcohol denaturation.
