Thiourea — CS(NH2)2 — diamide of thiocarbonic acid, thiocarbamide, white crystals of bitter taste, tpl 180 — 182 °C (at fast heating; at slow — decays); it is sparingly soluble in water, methanol, pyridine, it is good — in 50% - number water pyridine.
Thiourea is applied in organic synthesis, to receiving medicines.
Alkylation of thiourea is used alkylation with formation of alkiltiuroniyevy salts and their subsequent basic hydrolysis: it is used as preparative method of synthesis of aliphatic thiols:
Advantage of this method are easy purification of tiuroniyevy salts with recrystallization and rather high overall yields of thiols.
Thiourea is also widely used in synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, and also as inhibitor of acid corrosion staly.
